I started this blog in August 2014 as a way to keep track of the comings and goings on the Ribble at Lytham. I lived close by and spent a lot my time on the estuary so it seemed sensible to have a place to keep track of everything - away from posts about trips to other places in the UK and abroad. Only two months in, a few rather big life events all happened at once resulting in me only having time to return to this blog six months on! During this time we have moved house, further south to Freckleton. This made a blog about the estuary at Lytham rather pointless as most of my birding would now, no doubt, take place at Freckleton's Naze Point. So...the purpose (and design) of the blog has been changed. It now covers the whole Fylde recording area but will also include estuary sightings from either side of the water.
Essentially this blog is for my own records. I'm forever writing sightings down in different places; Birdtrack, notebooks, scraps of paper, fancy iPhone apps that I soon lose interest in. This is a place to bring all (well nearly all) of that together. A chronological record of personal sightings and photos that I can look back on. So why publish it online? Well, that way it's accessible from anywhere and safe (meaning I won't lose it on a USB stick)! And..who knows, it may even be of interest to someone else out there.
